Cardaces

Background

The Cardaces or Kardakes were a heavy infantry unit of the Achaemenid military. Modern historians debate over the tactics, weapons and armor used by the Cardaces as not much is known about them. However, some believe that the Cardaces were used in addition to Greek mercenaries which were highly popular in the Achaemenid army during the later phases of the empire.
